Job Overview

The Water Resources Engineer will design, implement, and oversee water supply and sanitation projects that improve access to safe drinking water for communities in Torit and surrounding regions. This role involves conducting hydrological assessments, developing engineering designs, managing construction contracts, and ensuring compliance with environmental standards. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive water resource assessments, including surface water and groundwater studies, to inform project design.
• Develop detailed engineering designs, specifications, and cost estimates for water supply, treatment, and distribution systems.
• Coordinate with local contractors, government agencies, and community stakeholders to ensure timely and quality construction.
• Monitor project implementation, conduct site inspections, and provide technical guidance to resolve engineering challenges.
• Ensure all projects comply with national regulations, UNICEF standards, and international best practices for WASH.
• Prepare technical reports, progress updates, and documentation for donors and partners.
• Support capacity‑building initiatives by training local engineers and technicians on sustainable water management practices.
• Participate in emergency response planning to provide rapid water solutions during crises.

Required Skills

• Strong knowledge of water resources engineering, hydraulic modeling, and sanitation technologies.
• Proficiency in engineering software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and GIS tools.
• Experience managing multi‑stakeholder projects in low‑resource settings.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams, including local communities and international partners.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of Arabic or local languages is an advantage.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or a related discipline is required. A Master’s degree or relevant professional certifications (e.g., CWWA, PMP) are highly desirable.

Experience

Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in designing, implementing, and managing water supply and sanitation projects, preferably in humanitarian or development contexts. Experience in South Sudan or similar environments is a strong asset.

Salary

The position offers a competitive salary range of SSP 12,000,000 to SSP 18,000,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional allowances may be provided in accordance with UNICEF policies.
