Job Overview

This role is critical to expanding access to safe water in rural South Sudan. The Water Supply Engineer will lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of water supply systems, including boreholes, hand pumps, and rainwater harvesting structures. The position requires collaboration with local stakeholders, government agencies, and international partners to ensure projects align with national development goals and global sustainability standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and oversee the construction of water supply infrastructure in remote communities
  • Conduct site assessments to identify water resource potential and community needs
  • Monitor water quality and ensure compliance with national and international safety standards
  • Train local technicians and community members on system maintenance and hygiene practices
  • Prepare technical reports, project proposals, and budget forecasts for stakeholders
  • Coordinate with government authorities to secure permits and regulatory approvals

Required Skills

  • Proven expertise in water supply system design and civil engineering principles
  • Experience with GIS mapping and hydrological data analysis
  • Strong project management skills, including budgeting and timeline coordination
  • Fluency in English and local languages (Dinka, Nuer, or Arabic preferred)
  • Ability to work in challenging field conditions with limited resources
  • Excellent communication skills for stakeholder engagement and community outreach

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field
  • Professional certification in water resource management or WASH standards (e.g., WHO, UNICEF) is an asset

Experience

  • 3–5 years of experience in water supply engineering, preferably in Sub-Saharan Africa
  • Previous project management experience in rural development or humanitarian contexts

Salary

1,500,000 – 2,500,000 SSP per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
