Reporting To: MHPSS Project Assistant (with support from MHPSS Officer & Psychosocial Counsellors)


1. Position Summary / Objective

The Community MHPSS Worker supports the implementation of community-based Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) activities aimed at strengthening resilience, social cohesion, and wellbeing among displaced and host populations. The role focuses on community mobilization, psychosocial support, referrals, and awareness activities within vulnerable communities in Juba.


2. Key Responsibilities

2.1 Community Mobilization & Awareness

  • Mobilize community members to participate in MHPSS activities
  • Conduct awareness sessions on mental health, psychosocial wellbeing, and available services
  • Facilitate community dialogues with leaders, women’s groups, youth groups, and religious leaders
  • Promote understanding of stress management, coping mechanisms, and social support

2.2 Psychosocial Support Activities

  • Support implementation of community-based psychosocial interventions
  • Facilitate group sessions including youth groups, parenting groups, and women’s support groups
  • Assist in creating safe spaces for vulnerable individuals
  • Promote positive coping strategies and social cohesion

2.3 Case Identification & Referral

  • Identify individuals showing signs of psychological distress or protection risks
  • Provide Psychological First Aid (PFA) when appropriate
  • Refer cases to MHPSS, protection, GBV, or health services using established referral pathways
  • Ensure timely and appropriate follow-up of referrals

2.4 Monitoring, Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, referrals, and community activities
  • Document feedback from beneficiaries and community members
  • Prepare weekly and monthly activity reports
  • Support data collection for program monitoring and evaluation

2.5 Coordination & Teamwork

  • Work closely with MHPSS officers, counsellors, case workers, and protection teams
  • Participate in supervision sessions, team meetings, and training activities
  • Contribute to coordinated service delivery across multidisciplinary teams

2.6 Safeguarding & Ethics

  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all beneficiary information
  • Adhere to safeguarding, protection, and do-no-harm principles
  • Ensure all interactions are respectful, inclusive, and non-discriminatory
  • Report any safeguarding concerns, abuse, or exploitation immediately
  • Uphold zero tolerance for exploitation and abuse

4. Qualifications & Experience

Education

  • Minimum secondary education required
  • Diploma in Psychology, Social Work, Community Development, or related field preferred

Experience

  • 1–2 years experience in community mobilization, MHPSS, GBV, protection, or child protection
  • Experience in humanitarian or displacement settings is an advantage
  • Strong facilitation and communication skills

5. Language Requirements

  • English (required)
  • Local languages (essential)

6. Personal Requirements

  • South Sudanese nationality required
  • Ability to work respectfully with diverse groups including women, youth, and persons with disabilities
  • Strong commitment to humanitarian principles and safeguarding standards
