Job Overview

The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist will be responsible for implementing, monitoring, and continuously improving Glencore’s EHS management system at the Gogrial exploration site. Reporting to the Site EHS Manager, the specialist will ensure compliance with local regulations, international standards, and Glencore’s internal policies. The role involves conducting risk assessments, delivering safety training, managing incident investigations, and promoting a culture of safety among all employees and contractors. This position plays a pivotal role in safeguarding personnel, protecting the environment, and supporting Glencore’s strategic objectives in South Sudan. The specialist will also collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including operations, engineering, and community liaison, to integrate safety considerations into all project phases.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain site‑specific EHS policies, procedures, and safe work practices.
• Conduct regular hazard identification, risk assessments, and site inspections to ensure compliance with SSP regulations and Glencore standards.
• Lead incident investigations, root‑cause analyses, and corrective action tracking to prevent recurrence.
• Deliver comprehensive safety training programs for employees, contractors, and local community workers.
• Monitor environmental impacts, manage waste streams, and ensure proper handling of hazardous substances.
• Prepare and submit accurate EHS reports to corporate headquarters and local authorities.
• Collaborate with the operations team to integrate safety considerations into project planning and execution.
• Promote a proactive safety culture through awareness campaigns, toolbox talks, and employee engagement initiatives.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of South Sudan mining regulations, ISO 45001, and other relevant standards.
• Support emergency response planning and conduct regular drills.

Required Skills

• Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation in South Sudan and internationally.
• Proficiency in risk assessment methodologies and incident investigation techniques.
• Excellent communication and training delivery skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
• Analytical mindset with strong problem‑solving capabilities.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH, or CSP are highly desirable and will be considered an asset during the selection process.

Experience

Minimum of five (5) years of hands‑on experience in an EHS role within the mining or heavy‑industry sector, preferably in an exploration environment. Demonstrated experience in conducting site inspections, managing incident investigations, and delivering safety training is essential.

Salary

The successful candidate will receive a competitive annual salary ranging from SSP 30,000,000 to SSP 45,000,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Salary is paid in South Sudanese Pounds and includes statutory benefits as per local labour law.
