Job Overview
The Data Center Operations Manager will lead all aspects of day‑to‑day operations for the Wau data center, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and security of AWS services. Reporting to the Regional Operations Director, you will oversee a multidisciplinary team of engineers, technicians, and support staff, managing everything from capacity planning and hardware maintenance to incident response and compliance. Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations of the Wau data center, ensuring 99.99% availability and adherence to service level agreements.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for power, cooling, and networking equipment.
- Lead incident management, root‑cause analysis, and post‑incident reviews to continuously improve reliability.
- Manage capacity planning, forecasting growth, and coordinating hardware procurement and installation.
- Ensure compliance with local regulations, AWS security policies, and industry standards such as ISO 27001 and SOC 2.
- Mentor and develop a high‑performing operations team, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with engineering, security, and finance teams to optimize operational costs and energy efficiency.
- Prepare and present operational performance reports to senior leadership and stakeholders.
Required Skills
- Deep knowledge of data center infrastructure, including power distribution, UPS, cooling systems, and networking.
- Proven experience with monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, Zabbix) and ticketing systems (e.g., ServiceNow).
- Strong leadership and people‑management abilities, with a track record of building effective teams.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills and the ability to make data‑driven decisions under pressure.
- Familiarity with cloud service models (IaaS, PaaS) and AWS product portfolio.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for interacting with technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Commitment to safety protocols and environmental sustainability practices.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline is required. Advanced certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Cisco CCNP, or Certified Data Center Professional (CDCP) are highly desirable.
Experience
Minimum of eight years of progressive experience in data center operations, with at least three years in a managerial or supervisory role. Experience in emerging markets or challenging environments is a plus, as is familiarity with local regulatory frameworks in South Sudan.
Salary
The compensation package ranges from SSP 30,000,000 to SSP 45,000,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The package includes performance‑based bonuses, health insurance, and retirement benefits.
