Job Overview
This position is part of IISD’s South Sudan Urban Climate Resilience Program, which aims to strengthen urban infrastructure and community preparedness against climate change impacts. The Urban Climate Resilience Planner will lead projects that integrate climate adaptation strategies into urban development plans, ensuring sustainable growth in Nimule and surrounding regions. This role is ideal for a professional passionate about combining urban planning with climate science to create resilient communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement climate resilience strategies for urban infrastructure in Nimule.
- Conduct climate risk assessments and vulnerability analyses for urban areas.
- Collaborate with local governments, NGOs, and communities to design adaptive urban planning frameworks.
- Coordinate with engineers, environmental scientists, and policymakers to integrate climate data into city planning.
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of climate adaptation projects on urban ecosystems and populations.
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and policy briefs for stakeholders and funding bodies.
Required Skills
- Proven expertise in urban planning, climate adaptation, or environmental science.

Education

- Certification in Climate Resilience Planning or Sustainable Urban Development is an asset.
Experience
- 3-5 years of experience in urban climate resilience projects, preferably in Sub-Saharan Africa.
- Documented success in managing multi-stakeholder urban development initiatives.
Salary
SSP 150,000 – SSP 200,000 per annum, commensurate with experience.
