Job Overview
This role is part of TechnoServe’s initiative to scale smart agriculture systems in South Sudan. The Smart Agriculture Systems Specialist will design, implement, and manage technology-driven solutions to optimize crop yields, water usage, and soil health. The position requires collaboration with local farmers, government agencies, and tech partners to deploy IoT-based monitoring tools, precision irrigation systems, and data analytics platforms tailored to South Sudan’s agricultural landscape.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and deploy smart agriculture systems integrating IoT sensors, drones, and data analytics tools
- Conduct field assessments to identify opportunities for technology adoption in farming practices
- Train farmers and local stakeholders on the use of digital tools for crop monitoring and resource management
- Collaborate with tech providers to customize solutions for smallholder and commercial farms
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of implemented systems on productivity and sustainability
- Prepare technical reports and present findings to stakeholders for continuous improvement
Required Skills
- Proven experience in agricultural technology implementation
- Strong understanding of IoT systems and data-driven decision-making
- Knowledge of South Sudan’s agricultural challenges and opportunities
- Excellent project management and cross-cultural communication skills
- Proficiency in GIS mapping or precision agriculture software
- Ability to work in remote rural environments
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Engineering, Environmental Science, Agricultural Economics, or related field. Advanced degrees or certifications in Smart Agriculture or Sustainable Development are advantageous.
Experience
3-5 years of experience in agricultural technology, preferably in Sub-Saharan Africa. Demonstrated success in implementing tech solutions for smallholder farming systems.
Salary
150,000 – 200,000 SSP monthly, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
