Job Overview

The Senior Energy Storage Systems Engineer will lead the design, implementation, and optimization of large‑scale battery storage solutions for utility‑scale and industrial customers in South Sudan. Reporting to the Regional Engineering Director, you will collaborate with cross‑functional teams including project management, procurement, and field operations to deliver projects that enhance grid stability, enable renewable integration, and improve energy access in remote areas. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the engineering design of battery energy storage systems, including sizing, layout, electrical architecture, and safety compliance.
  • Develop detailed technical specifications, schematics, and integration plans for BESS projects in collaboration with vendors and local utilities.
  • Perform system simulations and performance modeling to optimize storage dispatch, efficiency, and lifecycle cost.
  • Oversee installation, commissioning, and testing activities, ensuring adherence to international standards such as IEC 62933 and local regulations.
  • Provide technical support during operation, including troubleshooting, performance analysis, and continuous improvement recommendations.
  • Coordinate with the Business Development team to prepare technical proposals, cost estimates, and feasibility studies for new opportunities.
  • Mentor junior engineers and facilitate knowledge transfer on emerging storage technologies and best practices.
  • Contribute to the development of Schneider Electric’s regional energy storage strategy and standards.

Required Skills

  • Deep expertise in battery technologies (Li‑ion, flow, lead‑acid) and power electronics.
  • Proficiency with simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, PSS®E, or HOMER.
  • Strong understanding of grid codes, protection schemes, and renewable integration.
  • Excellent project management abilities and experience delivering complex engineering projects.
  • Effective communication skills for interfacing with clients, regulators, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of Arabic or local languages is an advantage.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related discipline is required. A Master’s degree or professional certifications (e.g., PMP, IEC 61850) are highly desirable and will be considered an asset during the selection process.

Experience

Minimum of eight years of hands‑on experience in the design, deployment, and operation of utility‑scale energy storage projects. Prior experience working in emerging markets or in Sub‑Saharan Africa is preferred, as is a proven track record of delivering projects on time and within budget.

Salary

The compensation package ranges from SSP 15,000,000 to SSP 25,000,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The package includes performance‑based bonuses, health insurance, and a retirement savings plan.
