Job Overview

The Cultural Heritage Documentation Specialist will lead efforts to digitally archive and analyze South Sudan’s cultural assets. This role involves fieldwork in Pibor to record oral histories, traditional music, and artisan practices, while developing accessible digital repositories for public and academic use. The position is ideal for a candidate passionate about cultural preservation and skilled in modern documentation technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct field research to document oral histories, traditional crafts, and cultural practices in Pibor.
  • Utilize digital tools (e.g., 3D scanning, audio-visual recording) to create high-quality archives.
  • Collaborate with local communities to identify and prioritize heritage sites and practices for preservation.
  • Develop educational materials and reports to share findings with stakeholders and the public.
  • Maintain and organize digital archives in compliance with international heritage standards.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in digital archiving software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, ArchiCAD).
  • Strong field research and interview techniques.
  • Knowledge of South Sudanese cultural traditions and languages (Dinka, Nuer, or English).
  • Experience with GIS mapping or photogrammetry tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, Museum Studies, or related discipline.
  • Master’s degree preferred but not required.

Experience

  • 3–5 years of experience in cultural documentation, heritage management, or digital archiving.
  • Previous work in South Sudan or neighboring regions is an asset.

Salary

150,000 – 200,000 SSP monthly, depending on experience.
