Job Overview

The Environmental Compliance Officer will play a pivotal role in ensuring that all Shell operations in South Sudan adhere to local, regional, and international environmental regulations. This position involves monitoring, reporting, and advising on environmental performance, conducting audits, and collaborating with cross‑functional teams to embed sustainability into daily operations. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct regular environmental audits of field sites, pipelines, and processing facilities.
• Prepare and submit compliance reports to the South Sudan Ministry of Environment and other relevant authorities.
• Identify potential environmental risks and develop mitigation strategies in collaboration with engineering and operations teams.
• Lead incident investigations related to spills, emissions, or waste handling, ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of national legislation, ISO 14001 standards, and industry best practices.
• Provide training and guidance to staff on environmental policies, waste segregation, and emergency response procedures.
• Engage with local communities to address concerns, promote awareness, and support corporate social responsibility initiatives.

Required Skills

• Strong analytical abilities with a keen eye for detail in data collection and reporting.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for interacting with regulators, senior management, and community representatives.
• Proficiency in environmental management software and Microsoft Office Suite.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Ecology, or a closely related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as Certified Environmental Professional (CEP) or ISO 14001 Lead Auditor are advantageous.

Experience

Applicants should have 2‑4 years of hands‑on experience in environmental compliance, monitoring, or auditing within the oil and gas sector or a related heavy‑industry environment. Experience working in South Sudan or other East African jurisdictions is highly valued.

Salary

The role offers a competitive salary range of 12,000,000 to 18,000,000 South Sudanese Pounds (SSP) per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and allowances for field travel are included.
