CIMMYT has a strong presence in South Sudan, where we work closely with local partners to improve agricultural productivity and food security. We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Sustainable Agriculture Specialist to join our team in Kapoeta.
Job Overview
The Sustainable Agriculture Specialist will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of sustainable agriculture projects in South Sudan. The successful candidate will have a strong background in agriculture, with experience in project management, team leadership, and stakeholder engagement.
The position will involve working closely with local partners, including farmers, extension agents, and government officials, to develop and implement sustainable agriculture practices that improve crop yields, reduce environmental impact, and enhance food security.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and implementation of sustainable agriculture projects in South Sudan
- Work closely with local partners to develop and implement sustainable agriculture practices
- Provide technical assistance and training to farmers, extension agents, and government officials
- Conduct research and analysis to identify best practices in sustainable agriculture
- Develop and implement monitoring and evaluation systems to track project progress and impact
Required Skills
- Master’s degree in Agriculture or related field
- 5-7 years of experience in sustainable agriculture, project management, and team leadership
- Strong background in agriculture, with experience in crop management, soil science, and entomology
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a team environment and build strong relationships with local partners
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Education
The successful candidate will have a Master’s degree in Agriculture or a related field. A Ph.D. in Agriculture or a related field is an added advantage.
Experience
The successful candidate will have 5-7 years of experience in sustainable agriculture, project management, and team leadership. Experience working in Africa, particularly in South Sudan, is highly desirable.
Salary
The salary for this position is 100,000 – 150,000 SSP per annum, depending on experience.
