Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Meteorology and Climate Modeling Specialist to join our team in Juba, South Sudan. The successful candidate will play a critical role in advancing our understanding of climate dynamics and impacts in South Sudan, contributing to the development of climate-resilient strategies and policies. This position offers a unique opportunity to work with a dynamic team of researchers and contribute to impactful projects that enhance the livelihoods of communities in South Sudan.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement climate models to analyze and predict climate variability and change impacts on agriculture, water resources, and other sectors in South Sudan.
- Conduct research on climate trends, patterns, and extreme weather events to inform policy and decision-making.
- Collaborate with stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and local communities, to integrate climate information into development planning.
- Provide technical support and training to users of climate information and tools.
- Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at international conferences.
Required Skills
- Advanced knowledge of meteorology, climate science, and modeling techniques.
- Proficiency in climate modeling software and tools, such as CESM or ECMWF.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data sets.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with experience working with diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced research environment.
Education
A Master’s degree in Meteorology, Climate Science, Environmental Science, or a related field is required. A Ph.D. is desirable.
Experience
At least 5 years of experience in climate modeling, meteorology, or a related field, with a focus on research and application of climate information.
Salary
The salary range for this position is 60,000 to 120,000 SSP per month, depending on experience and qualifications.
