Job Overview

The Sustainable Urban Agriculture Specialist will be responsible for leading IFAD’s urban agriculture program in South Sudan, which aims to improve the productivity and market access of smallholder farmers in urban and peri-urban areas.

The Specialist will work closely with government agencies, civil society organizations, and the private sector to develop and implement innovative solutions that address the challenges facing urban agriculture in South Sudan.

The Specialist will also be responsible for promoting gender equality and social inclusion in all aspects of the program, and for supporting the development of rural women and youth.

The Specialist will be based in Kapoeta, South Sudan, and will be required to travel frequently to other parts of the country to implement the program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead IFAD’s urban agriculture program in South Sudan, including developing and implementing program strategies and work plans.
  • Work closely with government agencies, civil society organizations, and the private sector to develop and implement innovative solutions that address the challenges facing urban agriculture in South Sudan.
  • Promote gender equality and social inclusion in all aspects of the program, and support the development of rural women and youth.
  • Develop and implement monitoring and evaluation systems to track the progress of the program and identify areas for improvement.
  • Prepare and submit reports to IFAD’s headquarters and other stakeholders on the progress of the program.

Required Skills

  • Master’s degree in Agriculture or related field.
  • At least 8 years of experience in urban agriculture, including experience in program management and implementation.
  • Strong knowledge of urban agriculture practices and technologies, including hydroponics, aquaponics, and vertical farming.
  • Experience in working with government agencies, civil society organizations, and the private sector.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including experience in working with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.

Education

Master’s degree in Agriculture or related field.

Experience

At least 8 years of experience in urban agriculture, including experience in program management and implementation.

Salary

120,000 – 180,000 SSP per annum.
