Job Overview
This role focuses on designing, deploying, and maintaining solar irrigation systems tailored to South Sudan’s agricultural needs. The specialist will work directly with farming cooperatives to optimize water usage, train local technicians, and ensure long-term system sustainability. The position is based in Fangak, a key agricultural hub in South Sudan’s Central Equatoria State.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement solar irrigation systems for smallholder farms
- Conduct site assessments to determine optimal solar panel and water pump configurations
- Train farmers and technicians on system operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting
- Collaborate with local NGOs and government agencies to expand project reach
- Monitor system performance and provide technical support for ongoing improvements
- Collect and analyze data on crop yields, water usage, and energy efficiency
Required Skills
- Expertise in solar energy systems and agricultural water management
- Strong understanding of South Sudan’s climate, soil types, and farming practices
- Proficiency in CAD software for system design
- Excellent communication and cross-cultural collaboration skills
- Ability to work in remote rural environments
- Problem-solving mindset with a focus on scalable solutions
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Engineering, Renewable Energy, or related field
- Master’s Degree preferred but not required
Experience
- 3-5 years of experience in solar energy or agricultural technology projects
- Previous work in Sub-Saharan Africa is a significant advantage
Salary
150,000 – 200,000 SSP per month, depending on experience and qualifications.
