Job Overview

Solidarités International (SI) is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Field Coordinator to oversee humanitarian programming in Sobat, South Sudan, within one of the world’s most challenging humanitarian contexts.

The Field Coordinator will act as the delegated representative of the Country Director (CD) in the assigned operational zone and will be responsible for strategic oversight, operational management, humanitarian coordination, security management, and program implementation.

The position focuses heavily on Emergency WASH (Water, Sanitation & Hygiene) interventions and Food Security & Livelihood (FSL) programming in conflict-affected and displacement-prone communities.

Main Job Description (JD)

Strategic Leadership & Coordination

The Field Coordinator will:

  • Serve as the delegated representative of the Country Director.
  • Propose regional humanitarian strategies based on evolving geopolitical and humanitarian contexts.
  • Ensure approved operational strategies are effectively implemented.
  • Coordinate emergency humanitarian interventions in the Sobat corridor.
  • Lead resumption of humanitarian activities after operational disruption and evacuation.

Program Management & Implementation

The successful candidate will oversee:

WASH Programming

  • Emergency water supply interventions
  • Sanitation activities
  • Hygiene promotion initiatives
  • Cholera prevention and response programming

Food Security & Livelihood (FSL) Programming

  • Emergency food security support
  • Livelihood recovery initiatives
  • Early recovery interventions
  • Community-based resilience programming

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring projects are implemented according to SI standards and humanitarian principles
  • Supervising project implementation timelines and quality
  • Ensuring donor compliance and contractual obligations

Team Leadership & Human Resource Management

The Field Coordinator will:

  • Lead and supervise field teams.
  • Provide mentoring and coaching support.
  • Build staff capacity and improve performance.
  • Ensure strong communication between expatriate and national staff.

Current staffing structure includes:

  • 3 expatriates
  • 9 national staff
  • Additional recruitment planned

The broader mission is scaling to approximately 160 staff members.

Security Management & Access

Due to the volatile operational environment, the Field Coordinator will:

  • Oversee staff safety and security.
  • Develop access strategies in conflict-affected areas.
  • Manage risks related to:
    • Armed violence
    • Intercommunal conflict
    • Looting and theft
    • Restricted movement
  • Coordinate with local authorities and humanitarian actors regarding security protocols.

Stakeholder Engagement & Representation

The role includes active representation with:

Education Requirements

Required Qualification

Candidates must hold a:

Experience Requirements

Humanitarian Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of humanitarian sector experience

Similar Role Experience

  • 3–4 years of experience in Field Coordination or equivalent leadership positions

Salary & Benefits

Compensation Package

Base Salary:
EUR 2,800 per month

Additional Allowance

  • 10% Annual Leave Allowance Paid Monthly
  • USD 700 Monthly Per Diem

Total Estimated Monthly Package

Starting from approximately:

EUR 3,080 Gross/Month + USD 700 Per Diem
